Welcome! My name is Galia Torres, PMHNP
I am a bilingual Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and proud UNC at Chapel Hill Graduate. I founded Brain Balance Psychiatry, PLLC, a solo-provider practice. I strive to provide the best psychiatric care to my clients and find it to be incredibly rewarding. I trained and worked several years in emergency room and outpatient settings, in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. After receiving my degree from UNC, I practiced in Raleigh NC until I moved to Naples Florida in 2023. It is here that I established my practice and look forward to making Naples and Florida my primary focus.
When I moved here, many of my North Carolina clients continued their mental health care with me via telepsychiatry, as I am still licensed in that state. I feel that my dedication to providing exceptional mental health services tailored to meet their unique needs is the reason they remained in my care. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
As a PMHNP, I provide comprehensive and all-inclusive services that will assess your mental health status and develop an individualized treatment plan. You and I as one will use a holistic approach to mental health care that considers psychological, biological, and social factors.
The responsibilities for psychiatrists vs. PMHNPs are very similar. Psychiatrists and PMHNPs both provide essential, comprehensive care to individuals with mental health conditions. Both have the training, experience and knowledge to address a wide array of mental health issues. While PMHNPs can and will prescribe medication and provide medication management, we tend to take a less pharmacological approach than a psychiatrist. Holistic care and counseling approaches along with building strong relationships will be an intricate part of your health care journey.
The following is an excerpt written by Alex Bachert on the Rula website: Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are both highly trained medical providers who are qualified to prescribe medication and provide psychotherapy.
